This summer, as I continue my search for a more permanent home, I am living in a tiny cabin in Old Fort, NC, just over the mountains from Black Mountain and Asheville.
Though it's unlikely I'll be in Old Fort for too long, I am happy to have the chance to spend a season or two here, as it has so many special charms of its own.
I love the mix of country farms and rolling green mountains here and delight in evening walks around the area.
These photos were taken on walks within a mile or two of my home.

Tiny cabin of my next-door neighbor - the one I live in is just like this, but set into the woods a bit with beautiful views.
So many mushrooms....they are going to get their own separate post
Lots of late summer storms has made for cool, cloudy evening vistas.
Summer has also been a time of many visitors.
A male ruby-throated hummingbird has claimed his territory just outside my bedroom window. While I love watching the pairs' theatrical aerial displays, it has also been a delight to see what hummingbirds do while at rest and all the tiny grooming, fussing, buzzing, and displaying involved.

This nursery and tree farm is just downhill from where I live and one of my favorite farm views in the area.
Ella has been hard at work this summer, chasing grasshoppers and skinks. She compensates by spending a lot of time lolling on the porch, then crashing on the couch at night.
